AliExpress has millions of products across hundreds of categories. The problem is that quality is very uneven - in the same category you’ll find both great bargains and products that go straight into a drawer. After gathering many buyers’ experiences, we can point out where it’s genuinely worth looking and where to be careful.
Categories where AliExpress shines
- Cables and chargersUSB-C and Lightning cables, adapters, GaN chargers - often the same gear as in local shops for a fraction of the price. Look for CE certificates and makers with over 1,000 reviews.
- Smartphone accessoriesCases, tempered glass, selfie sticks, car mounts - a huge choice, prices from under 1 EUR, quality comparable to 10 EUR products in malls.
- Tools and DIY accessoriesDriver bits, wrench sets, cable organizers, LED strips - here Chinese manufacturing really nails the quality-to-price ratio.
- Decorations and home goodsPhoto frames, candle holders, decorative cushions, rugs - here looks matter, not technical specs. Results are often very good.
- Garden accessoriesHose nozzles, tool organizers, small garden tools - great quality at low prices.
- Sportswear and fitness accessoriesLeggings, sports tops, bands, resistance loops - the value beats most high-street chains.
Categories that need caution
- Electronics (laptops, phones, tablets)Avoid branded smartphones and laptops - counterfeits are common, and genuine units aren’t cheaper than at authorized shops. Accessories for these devices are the exception.
- Cosmetics and supplementsNo certainty about ingredients and no health certifications. The risk of allergies and of buying a fake product is real here.
- Toys for children under 3Products must have a CE certificate and be tested for harmful substances. That’s hard to verify on AliExpress.
- Electrical appliances (kettles, irons, heaters)No certificates can mean a fire or shock risk. If you don’t see a CE certificate, don’t buy.
Important
Golden rule: the more a product touches safety (electricity, chemistry, food, toys for small children), the more cautious you should be about buying without certificates.
How to pick out good products in any category
- Filter by "4 stars and up" and at least 100 reviews - it cuts out most weak offers.
- Read reviews with photos - they give a real sense of the product, not just the seller’s promises.
- Check the "Buyer" tab in reviews - filtering by your country shows local buyers’ experiences.
- Look for sellers with a "Top Brand" section or marked as "Choice" - AliExpress verifies their quality.
- Compare the same product across several sellers - prices can differ by 30–50% for identical goods.
The best time to buy
AliExpress regularly runs big sales where prices drop 30–60%: the 11.11 Global Shopping Festival (Singles’ Day), 12.12, Black Friday, and a summer sale in July. It’s worth adding the products you’ve spotted to your wishlist in advance and buying on the sale day.
Beyond the platform-wide events, many sellers offer ongoing coupons and discounts for following their store. Click "Follow" on your favorite sellers - you’ll get a notification when they add new products or lower prices.
